Winter fruits; what you need to know
What you need to know Citrus are in full fruit during winter here at Eden, which is great as their high levels of vitamin C make them the perfect immune booster to include in your diet and garden, so you can have them fresh from the garden. Take a walk through our display garden to discover the many different citrus fruits to choose from, including lemons, limes, mandarins, oranges, grapefruit, pomelos, tangerines, kumquats, lemonade trees and native finger limes. All can be grown in pots and come in dwarf forms. At Eden we stock multi grafted or ‘Splitzer’ options are great for getting more than one variety of fruit from the same plant. It’s easy to always have a lemon on hand for your fish and chips, a slice of home grown lime for your G&T or a ruby grapefruit for a stunning winter salad.
Citrus love water and heaps of food, so keep them mulched with well-rotted manure year round, use Yates Thrive Natural Citrus & Fruit Pellets in spring and autumn, and apply pelletised manure in spring, summer and autumn. As new growth appears in late spring and summer, it can be helpful to use Pest oil or Eco oil to protect from various citrus pests like stink bugs (bronze orange bug), aphids, scale and citrus leaf miner.
