Easter Daisies

Easter daisies are a type of Aster that is a popular cottage garden plant.  Known in the northern hemisphere as MichaelmasDaisy, where the flower in Christmas, they have recently had their botanical name changed and are now Symphyotrichum.

Whatever their name, they make a fabulous addition to the garden.  They are hardy, attract bees, flower in sun or part shade, and come in a wide range of colours, in doubles and in singles.  They also make wonderful cutting flowers for the garden.

Of course, Easter is a great time in Australia for many daisies.  We have African daisies and Marguerite daisies in full flower, and they make a wonderful splash of colour from now till the end of May, when you can trim them back again and they’ll flush into bloom for another springtime show, giving you more bang for your buck.

Check them out in our garden at Macquarie Park if your hopping in this weekend…you’ll want to fill your basket with them too.
