Green credentials
At Eden Gardens, being green is in our DNA. Our environmental credentials started way back when the building was being designed, including dual flush toilets, solar hot water and natural light and ventilation in the buildings. We store and recycle our water on site, harvesting our roof water and nursery runoff, cleaning it through a creek and series or reed beds before reusing it back in the nursery. We also compost garden waste, have a bank of Hungry Bins to recycle our café organics, and, at Macquarie Park, have various recycling initiatives around the store including a problem waste drop off station for City of Ryde residents to safely dispose of ink cartridges, light bulbs, mobile phones and household batteries. One of our most popular services is our plastic pot exchange. We also donate end of season plants and materials for communal gardening projects in disadvantaged communities… we hope that everything that goes around comes around.
“Eden’s special because of the people”, says Anna Ainsworth. “They are as diverse a group as flowers in the garden, but each bring their own qualities and stories.” When Anna Ainsworth sees kids interacting in the garden at Eden, dipping their toes into the water, laughing or being mesmerised by the lizards, she knows that what she and her husband have created here has been a valuable contribution to the community, and that’s what drives her every day…
