Clare James

We are fortunate to welcome back Clare James to Eden Unearthed for her second season.  This year Clare is creating a water colour painting like no other, and it’s a true testament to the natural world she loves so much.

Clare James is an artist who lives and works in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. Her paintings and 3D works reference the observations made in her garden and in wild places. Her art attempts to capture the intricacies, complex cycles and beauty of the world around her.

With this installation, I Made This For You, all the inks and dyes used have been sourced from her garden, with ingredients like duck egg yolk. Calendula flowers, aquilegia, tansy, butterfly pea, beetroot and carrot juice mingling with various berries, violets and even goose poo!  We love Clare’s passion for her work and creativity.  The work will hand in the garden and is a gift to the creatures that lives there, so it will gradually be eaten away by snails and other garden microbes. Prints of Clare’s extraordinary work will be available for sale on October 9 as part of the Artisan Market she will have a stall in. so you can get your own copy before it fades away.  You can also book into Clare’s watercolourpainting workshop on the day at 10am, to learn how to create your own painting while taking in some bubbles and blooms in our garden.

With concern for the environment Clare’s art also highlights issues about habitat loss, climate change and extinction. Clare James has exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions, in Australia and the USA. Her artwork can be found in public and private collections around the world.
