Volunteer Week
The 18 -24th May is a time when we honor those giving souls who generously give their time to others. The theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week is Changing Communities. Changing Lives. The current COVID-19 environment has really brought home the importance of community and our ability to adapt to new situations is not necessarily the same for everyone.
Our local Easy Care Gardening group is a wonderful example of a volunteer organisation making a real difference in the Hornsby, Hunters Hill, Ku-ring- gai and Ryde areas. Since 1988 they have provided a subsidised gardening service to older people and eligible people with a disability and their carers.
If you love gardening but don’t have a backyard, or simply want to meet like-minded people and have time to garden for someone else, get in touch with Easy Care Gardening on ecg2074@easycaregardening.org.au and join in, or just surprise your elderly neighbour by mowing their lawn of doing some weeding this week…you can mow and garden at a safe distance after all.
