Sydney Craft Week Comes to Eden Gardens

Sydney Craft Week runs from October 7 -16 and is an event hosted by the Australian Design Centre. As part of the Festival of Flowers at Eden Gardens Macquarie Park, we have curated a selection of events that celebrate a few of our favourite things: flowers, arts and crafts, and community.

Flowers bring us so much joy, and are wonderful to have in your garden and home, but did you know there is so much more that you can do with them Joanne Broederlow will be transforming flowers into dyes and using them to create bespoke scarves, and artist Clare James will be showing you how to make a range of inks and dyes from the garden, and then you can practice on paper to create your own botanical work. So much more fun than squeezing a tube and the colours you can create are extraordinary.

Then try dyeing of a different kind and use flowers and foliage to make a beautiful cyanotype print. This is the oldest form of photography and results in a ‘blue print’ of the silhouette of your flower arrangement.

If textiles are your thing, join Alison Thompson to stitch, sew and crochet a posy of fibre flowers…or artist Saskia Everingham to learn the basics of felting and make your own wonderful felted-flower piece that you can wear as a brooch or in your hair.

We will have a florist on site to run a wreath making workshop so you can get a jump start on Christmas, and a gorgeous flower crown workshop for kids. You can then book a session with Riding for the Disabled and take a picture with a flower bedecked pony.

We also have Sage Cosmetic Coaching joining us to run two wonderful workshops for a self- pampering day of garden fun. In one you will create your own floral scent with essential oils, and in the other you can make skincare from your garden…now that’s pretty crafty!

There will also be flower talks and walks, Artisan Markets, Gin Tastings and a Dessert Bar throughout the day.
